Role Summary
The Finance Controller will oversee end-to-end finance and accounting operations for the commodity trading business, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and statutory compliance across multiple countries and subsidiaries. This role requires hands-on experience in commodity trading finance, strong analytical skills, and close collaboration with trading, operations, and leadership teams.
Key Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day finance and accounting operations for the commodity trading desk and related entities, including GL, AP, AR, bank reconciliations, accruals, provisions, and MIS.
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with applicable accounting standards and group policies.
Handle financial consolidation for multiple countries and subsidiaries, including eliminations and inter-company reconciliations.
Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, providing insights on trading performance, margins, and cost control.
Monitor and analyse P&L by product, market, and entity, including trading margins, inventory valuation, and hedging impact.
Implement and strengthen internal controls, financial policies, and SOPs across geographies.
Coordinate with auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory authorities to ensure statutory and tax compliance.
Partner with trading, risk, operations, and treasury teams for deal structuring, working capital management, and risk mitigation.
Drive process improvements, automation, and standardisation of financial reporting.
Ensure timely and accurate management reporting to senior leadership and group finance.
Candidate Profile
Education: MBA (Finance)
Experience: 3–4 years of post-qualification experience as a Finance Controller / Financial Controller / Senior Accountant in a commodity trading company (metals, agri, energy, etc.) or similar trading environment.
Strong understanding of commodity trading lifecycle and accounting, including inventory, FX, LC, hedging, and fair value accounting.
Experience managing finance for multiple countries and subsidiaries, including consolidation and inter-company transactions.
Working knowledge of accounting standards, taxation basics, and statutory compliances.
Proficient in Excel and experienced with ERP/accounting systems (exposure to trading or risk systems is a plus).
Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional and cross-border teams.
